Tips for Healthy Lunch


Are you bored eating the same type of food for lunch in office or schools like dals, chapattis, vegetable sauté or chicken sandwiches? Then it’s a time to get some twist in your daily routine meal (lunch) which is a very important meal of your day to keep you happy and energetic. Here are some of the new recipes which you can try in your lunch box.

Greek salad Pita

In this recipe you have to fill whole wheat pita with leftover chicken or canned tomatoes, peas, cucumbers bell peppers or leftover cooked vegetable along with feta cheese and olives and serve. Don’t forget to squeeze some lemon juice over chicken or vegetables to give better taste.

Mexican Burrito Bowl

Here you need to combine sliced chicken breast with cooked brown rice, sautéed onions, bell peppers and lettuce. For vegetarians, black beans can be used in place of chicken. This is a perfect bowl for lunch.

Asian salad Bowl

Toss some shelled edamame beans together with mixed greens, shredded carrots, green onions and red bell peppers. And now add crushed brown rice crackers for a crouton-like crunch. But remember to add peanut dressing over it right before you’re ready to eat.

*Edamame bean is a type of preparation of immature soybean found in pods, and is part of Taiwan, China, Japan, Indonesia, Korea and Hawaii cuisine.

Italian Bruschetta Chicken salad

This recipe include combining of chopped chicken or white beans with arugula, tomatoes, olive, raw zucchini and red onion. Marinate this salad with balsamic vinegar in a bowl and then serve this salad on slices of white whole baguette and its ready to eat.

*Arugula is a Mediterrian plant with strong flavour which is widely used in Italian cuisine.

 *Zucchini is a small gourd mainly found in Europe

Note: To make well balanced diet, dietician recommend to include whole grains, lean protein products such as beans or chicken and most important add fresh fruits and vegetables. Therefore all these above recipes are considered healthy and well balanced in nutrients.
