“Eat Breakfast like a King, Lunch like a Prince, and Dinner like a Pauper!”

How many of us really believe in this famous Spanish saying that “Eat breakfast like a King, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper”.

Yes, it I true that one should try to eat light at dinner to lose weight and keep you healthy. Researchers says “The biological clock controls our metabolism, so the way in which we metabolize the same food during a day and night is different”. Studies have proved if we metabolize food during the day when we are active, it is not converted so much to fat. Whereas food eaten during the night or late evening is more likely to be converted into fat that result in gaining extra weight. Thus having heavy lunch and light dinner is a key way to lose weight.

Here are some of the tips for healthy eating

Consider having larger breakfast and smaller dinner because breakfast is an important meal of the day which gives you energy to carry out activities for full day.

Never skip breakfast as skipping breakfast can make you feel tired, sleepy and cranky in the morning which will affect your full day schedule.

At lunch eat substantial meal to keep you energetic and active.

Avoid eating after dinner. Avoid munching also during late evening which is often due to boredom than hunger.

Avoid eating your dinner late because eating late can lead to sleeping problems and cause you to eat more calories.

Avoid skipping dinner. Try to eat light dinner such as salads, soups and fruits.

Avoid going to bed as soon as you have dinner as it will lead to indigestion and affect your sleep.

Sleep on time because if you stay awake at night you are more likely to eat junk food. This mainly happens while watching TV, playing video games and surfing internet. So avoid all such activities to stop nighttime snacking.

Avoid caffeine and alcohol close to bedtime.

Drink plenty of water and fruit juices which will avoid you eating from junk food.

Studies have shown people who eat light at night end up eating fewer calories and grams of fat than people who eat more at dinner and night time snacks. Hence make sure to have well balanced food during day as well as at night to meet all your dietary nutrients. Include fruits, vegetables,protein rich foods and whole grains to satisfy your hunger needs between meals.

So remember this old saying “Eat breakfast like a King, Lunch like a Prince and Dinner like a Pauper”and you will see difference in your weight and health with no time.
