Pregnant women can take precautions to increase your chances of having a healthypregnancy:-Maintain a properdiet with plenty of folic acid and calcium.-Take prenatalvitamins daily.-Exercise regularlyafter you've gotten your doctor's OK.-Maintain a healthyweight (women who are overweight or too thin may be more likely to have miscarriages).-Avoid drugs andalcohol.-Avoid deli meats andunpasteurized soft cheeses such as feta and other foods that could carrylisteriosis.-Limit caffeineintake.-If smoke then quit.-Talk to your doctorabout all medications you're currently taking. Unless your doctor indicatesotherwise, many prescription and over-the-counter medicines should be avoidedduring pregnancy.-Avoid activities thatcould cause abdominal trauma.-Get immunized againstcommunicable diseases and know your family medical and genetic history.-Go to all of yourscheduled prenatal appointments and discuss any concerns with your doctor.-Call your doctorright away if you have fever, feel ill, notice decreased fetal movements, orare having bleeding, spotting, or cramping.
