Pet Allergies: Causes, Symptoms and Precautions


Allergic reactions are those reactions in body which are triggered by some kind of foreign moleclus especially proteinacoeus in nature known as "allergens". Some pets like dogs and cats have such allergens in their skin, saliva and in urine which can lead to allergic reactions in people.


Skin dander is the common allergen which attaches to the pet hair and therefore when pet shed hairs, allergens are transferred from pets to people. Dogs with long hair have more chances to spread allergic reaction. But such allergic reactions alos depends from person to person, as some may not show any symptoms where in some may it cause severe allergic reactions.

And when it cones to pet allergy, dog's individual features and characters matter it more in spreading allergic reactions than its breed. Such as dogs with dandruff have more chances to gove off more allergens. Some dog breeds are more likely to have hereditary dandruff problems than others which include cocker spaniels, basset hounds, dachshunds, labrodor, golden retriever and German shepherds.

Another cause of pets allergens might be the presence of dust mites. Dust mites have peculiar characteristics that they thrive the most in the places where dogs spend most of their time. Therefore it is always advisable to change your pets beds often especially when your house doesnt have proper air ciculation.

Along with dogs, cats can also lead to allergic reactions mainly through their saliva.

Symptoms of Pet Allergy Symptoms

If you are allergic to dogs, your symptoms are similar to most to other pet allergies which include:

coughing and wheezing

runny and itchy stuffy nose

red itchy eyes


skin rash or any other skin irritation

Tips to avoid Pet Allergy

It is best to advice, if anyone in family shows allergy to pets, to keep away. and incase if you have any, there are some precautions to be taken to avoid pet allergy:

Try to keep pets awyay from bedrooms areas

Keep them in theri seperate room

maintain cleaniness of pet's room and entire house

Use disinfectants wherver possible

Make a habit ot play with your pets outside

Wash your dogs regularly atleast once in week

wash your hands especially children when you play with them

Avoid using carpets and rugs if pets in house

And if you really want to keep pet even after having severe allergic reactions, best way to adopt allergy free pets which has no fur or feathers such as turtle, hermit crab or a fish.
